College Rule #3

Determine Your Party Style (Hint: If you like REALLY crazy parties, join the theatre group.)

I will never forget my first cast party. I feel like that’s when I lost my high school innocence. It wasn’t even for a play I was in, I was just invited to go. I showed up in a simple spaghetti strap black dress, not knowing how wrong my attire was.

I entered the Playhouse, and it was like stepping into a sexier version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. All the women were wearing corsets, fishnets, 5-inch heels and breath-taking skirts. The men were decked out in suits or outlandish costumes. I felt so intimidated, but they warmly welcomed me to the party and let me dance with them.

I immediately noticed people were all over each other. Grinding, making out, groping…anything short of having sex on the dance floor. At my high school we always had to “leave room for the Holy Trinity” when dancing with someone, so I was in a slight state of shock. (FYI, the Holy Trinity is about 2 ft. wide)

About 20 minutes into the party a pretty blonde girl presented me with the spikiest banana I had ever seen. Upon further inspection I saw that the spikes were actually a hundred little cloves piercing into the sides of the fruit.

“Do you accept?” she asked me sweetly.

I stared at her blankly, not sure what to do.

“Take a clove out of the banana with your teeth, and keep it there.”

I did as she told me.

“And now…I’ll take it back.” Before I knew it we were making out, and then just as soon we had stopped. She had the clove in her hand, and I had the banana in mine.

“Now go offer it to someone else, just like I showed you,” she said smiling.

She was the second person I had ever kissed. Before that it was only my boyfriend in high school, and he had horrible breath.

By the end of the night I had made out with over fifteen people, and eight of them were girls. (The banana was just one fruit of many.) I can’t even describe how blissful I felt. I guess if kissing one person can make you happy, then kissing 15 can make you ecstatic.

They were all so nice to me. They kept saying how glad they were to have me as a new freshman, and how pretty I was. At least, all but one. His name was Drew, and he was the hottest guy in the organization. Drew was tall, muscular, and a born ladies man. He also happened to be a fifth-year senior. I wanted him to notice me so badly. He wouldn’t though, he was too preoccupied with his current female friends surrounding him.

I felt so slighted. Little did I know how many mornings I was to wake up in his arms, and how much grief our precarious relationship would cause me.

More on that later.
